With proper stewardship of our open space trust fund, we can: :

  • Help trigger a cascade of grants available to acquire open space and improve recreation in Wyckoff AND
  • Preserve our quality of life by protecting undeveloped open and wooded space and our well water supply
  • Help to mitigate future tax increases created by still more development--relieving stress on schools and township services.
  • Improve our property values.

Local Open Space Funds Attract Big Money

Towns with open space trust funds are leveraging them to attract large grants from state Green Acres, Bergen County Open Space, and private sources.

Here’s how Wyckoff fared:

Table shows total amounts invested in land acquisition and other programs funded by Green Acres, land trusts, and Bergen County Open Space, including county projects within a town’s borders. Grants covering more than one town have been split between the towns. Table shows Bergen County towns bordering Wyckoff or in its regional  school district.

Allendale, Mahwah, Oakland and Ridgewood all have local open space trust funds in place and elected officials interested in land preservation. Franklin Lakes has issued municipal bonds to attract the grants to purchase open space.

As long as our local officials are willing, we can save some of the more than 100 acres of undeveloped land left in Wyckoff. Once it is built, it will be lost forever.
